Mark Crawford, HR Business Partner from John Bean Technologies on their growing business

Nine Twenty & JBT

John Bean Technologies is a leading global technologies provider, and has just completed a multimillion pound investment at their new site in Livingston.  They’re also very proud of their technology claim to fame - “90% of the entire worlds’ chicken nuggets have been involved with the JBT product line at one point in their production!”

Nick Beecroft spoke to JBT’s new HR Business Partner Mark Crawford, to find out about life with the growing business and their current vacancies.

How have your first three months with JBT been, Mark?

There’s no shallow end at JBT – you’re immersed into the business from day one and involved in new situations every week. There’s always something to get stuck into and learn from. The great thing is that the role has been completely autonomous, and I’m treated as a business partner rather than an employee.

In my first months, I’ve been involved in an entire site move and travelled across Europe and the UK for business unit acquisition and integration, which has been an incredible learning experience.

Plus, that’s all alongside the day to day work!

What are the benefits of working for the business?

JBT is a huge organisation on a global scale, so opportunities are endless but in equal measure it’s a small family unit. I can call any colleague in any country and ask for support or advice, and they know me by name and always make themselves available. Everyone is accountable to everyone and this extends through the entire business at all levels.

What current opportunities are available at JBT at the moment?

We’re always looking for ambitious talent to help on our journey and we’re currently looking for qualified welder/fabricators that want to work with a global leader in their field and take pride in their workmanship. Our components aren’t coated and covered, so 100% perfection is a must. If you want to develop and open doors to training and promotion, then JBT can offer you all you’ll ever need.

We’re also looking to hire Field Service Engineers anywhere in the Bristol/Leicester belt or anywhere up the M6 corridor. Ideally, candidates would have experience within large industrial manufacturing environments, in both mechanical and electrical backgrounds.

The other role we’re very keen to fill is our automation engineering position.  We’ve had a contractor on site for 12 months, but we now see a requirement for a permanent member of staff. As JBT want to be at the forefront of our industry we’re looking for a well-qualified automation engineer to become the site specialist in their field. They’d have the opportunity to take hold of this at the grass roots and help JBT achieve and exceed their growth plans. The main function of the role will be to execute design related to customer orders, support the organisation’s sales requests and together with the department/team, take technical responsibility for the equipment within the DD product lines.

What career opportunities are there for new employees?

That’s really all dependent on the individual, but they can grow by showing an aptitude to develop their skills, and also by embodying JBT’s values of integrity, accountability, teamwork and relentless continual improvement.
