Team Interview - catching up with Trainee Consultant Caroline Strachan

 22nd May 2018

Back in April, we were pleased to announce an internal promotion for Caroline Strachan, who moved from a support role to join our Manufacturing & Engineering team as a Trainee Consultant. We caught up with Caroline six weeks into her new role to find out how it’s going!

  • Caroline, how have you found the past six weeks been as you've been settling into the role?

It has been a super busy time for me transferring into this role, and my first experience of recruitment -  however I have taken it in my stride. I really do feel like “why haven’t I done this before!” I am very much a people person and I am loving it so far!

  • What support have you had from the Nine Twenty team to help you get settled?

Karen has been very supportive -  she has given me a massive opportunity by promoting me into the team, and I am running with it! Karen is very knowledgeable about the manufacturing and engineering industry and excellent at what she does, so I am confident that I am learning from the best!

  • Are there any moments that you've particularly enjoyed so far?

The relief in getting my first placement after all my efforts and getting to ring our office bell was very rewarding, and I’ve just kept going from that point!

  • What have you found challenging about the role?

When my temp workers don’t turn up it can be quite frustrating, but that is the game of recruitment – you just have to accept the highs and the lows and not let anything get to you and just power on!

  • What advice would you give to anyone who's thinking about starting a career in recruitment?

I would say to be prepared for highs and lows. You need to have a good backbone and be prepared to take the good and the bad equally. You will always be busy (which I like!), and if you put plenty of hard work in, you will reap the rewards.

  • What's coming up in the next few weeks for you?

As I have now placed over 20 temps between two clients, whilst keeping on top of my temps and maintaining my relationship with them, I will now be focusing on filling permanent roles. I currently have interviews lined up for three roles with two different clients, and I’m now focusing on resourcing for Maintenance Engineers and any other roles which come to me!

Director Karen Stewart said; “I am delighted to have Caroline in the business and her energy and enthusiasm has been refreshing to see. She is a true example of you get out what you put in in this game and has made some perm placements and lots of temp placements in a short space of time. We are adding a new member to our team next week and I am excited to see our new team gel and grow and continue to deliver a great service and innovative solutions to our clients and candidates. A huge well done to Caroline, keep this up and the sky is the limit!”
