Career prospects grow in Scotland's booming distillery sector

 12th Feb 2019

As niche and exclusive roles continue to grow in Scotland, Nine Twenty Manufacturing & Engineering takes a look at the latest news and job prospects and background into the country’s growing distilling and brewing industry.

It’s long been known that distilling and brewing is a huge part of Scotland’s economic culture, but did you know just how much the industry contributes in terms of jobs, finance and innovation?

The facts:

  • 88% of all UK distilling jobs are based in Scotland – that’s around 8,000 jobs
  • The number of distilling units in Scotland increased by 69% between 2010 and 2018
  • In 2017, the export value of whisky hit a whopping £4.37 billion
  • The number of breweries in Scotland has risen by 229% in the past eight years

Scotland has also seen surges in benefits to other related industries as a result – the tourism sector has seen record numbers of bookings for whisky trails, brewery tours and food experiences.

Just last month, it was announced that multi-million redevelopment plans for Rosebank Distillery in Falkirk have been approved, with the move set to create another 25 full time jobs.  Diageo are also currently in final talks to bring a Johnnie Walker Visitor Experience to Edinburgh’s Princes Street.
