Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing are delighted to be recruiting for our Dundee & Angus based client who are looking for a Packaging CAD Designer to join their clients team on a permanent basis.

The purpose of the role is to come up with creative rigid box designs so they are looking for someone with experience in a design function in a packaging environment.

An enthusiastic Graduate who can bring tenacity, thoroughness and analytical thinking would also be considered for this role.

The role involves...

  • Production of prototypes and samples to satisfy a customer brief or design concept
  • Manage technical projects to ensure all relevant timelines are met
  • Attend meetings with Customers and /or Suppliers where required
  • Work closely with Sales whilst developing strong customer relationships ensuring all targets are met 
  • Input job information onto internal database 
  • Ensure that the responsibilities and actions documented and required by the NPD process are followed at all times
  • Maintain CAD administration and ensure information stored is accurately
  • Create and/or add customer profiles to the Computer Aided Designer (CAD)
  • Ensure designs created are fit for purpose for production 
  • To turnaround all samples within agreed timeframe
  • Advise customer on any other component of the product which may be required or sourced
  • Create new concepts
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with current trends/ materials / technology available
  • Good level of product and process knowledge.
  • A close working relationship with the Customer Services Team and Business Development Managers is crucial 
  • Contact and communication with other Design teams 
  • Develop and maintain effective internal and external customer relationships
  • Liaising with other departments when required to ensure any samples provided are fit for production prior to customer approval.
  • Assist team with various projects they may be working  on to meet and complete projects
  • Report and manage department’s Key Performance Indicators

Professional Qualification Required...

  • A product or design related qualification

Skills required...

  • Minimum of 3 years construction designer experience (gained within the print packaging industry would be advantageous)
  • Working knowledge of CAD.
  • Working knowledge of sample cutting tables & their uses.
  • Familiarity with the different material specifications 
  • Good understanding of manufacturing & customer assembly processes.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced & high volume manufacturing environment
