Are you passionate about Industry 4 and taking businesses forward into the new era through technology and people? If so, then we have a rare and exciting opportunity with a Global leader in the Manufacturing community who are driving transformation and are now seeking someone to head up their strategy around Controls and Automation. This role will oversee Control and Automation within Manufacturing. Covering strategy, maintenance, technical support, projects and Continuous Improvement of existing and emerging infrastructure including the Operational Technology (OT) networks and manufacturing systems /software. Develop and implement a C&A strategy within manufacturing to ensure reliability, cyber security compliance and to support Manufacturing continuous improvement journey and develop and lead the site Industry 4.0 strategy to support the delivery of the business goals in terms of safety, quality, delivery, cost and engagement with a focus on productivity. 

This is an all encompassing position covering people, change, budgets, technology, data, collaboration and will need someone who can spin many plates at any one time, who can work collaboratively internally and externally and who are able to think ahead and see the bigger picture.....all whilst developing and inspiring the teams to the end goals! 

The client is seeking someone with the following skills and experience: 

  • Degree in electrical/ electronic or relevant engineering discipline with at extensive industrial experience, preferably Chartered Engineer

  • Proficient in the use and application of software, PLC (preferably Rockwell or Siemens), Process Control Systems and automation systems and their implementation in a modern business environment

  • Working understanding/experience of software/digital tools that support shop floor operations such as performance dashboards, collaboration tools, quality data management

  • Proficient and experienced with network server, data communications, networking infrastructure and switching

  • Competent in the use high level programming languages as well as experience using relational databases. Knowledge of cloud and edge infrastructure is beneficial

  • Experience of applying Industry 4.0 solutions

  • Experience in Engineering Contracts specification and administration, environmental constraints and legislation

  • Experience in Functional Safety systems and its application

  • Experience in hazardous area design, installation and commissioning

  • Knowledge of other branches of engineering and their interface with each other.

  • Experience of management of contractors and in-house resource to deliver projects

  • Project Management and engineering experience with use of appropriate tools and techniques

  • Able to apply analytical techniques to measure and improve performance standards

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills

  • Commercial awareness with good negotiation skills

  • Ability to prioritise, resource and manage multiple projects
