Cooper Apprenticeship

Lanarkshire

£6.70 per hour

A cooper is a person trained to make wooden casks, barrels, vats, buckets, tubs, troughs and other similar containers from timber staves that were usually heated or steamed to make them pliable. Journeymen coopers also traditionally made wooden implements, such as rakes and wooden-bladed shovels. In addition to wood, other materials, such as iron, were used in the manufacturing process.

The trade is the origin of the surname Cooper. Coopers play an important role in the drinks industry and at the moment, there are less than 250 time served Coopers in Scotland and the demand for their skills are high.

We are representing a company who are looking for local school leavers who may want to explore this as a future career.

The successful people will start in the business as an operator to allow them to fully understand the job and decide if it is truly for them. If so, then the successful parties will be given the opportunity to join the apprentices programme.

Although a rare and exciting opportunity, this career will not be for everyone. The role is very manual and physically demanding with lots of activities based outdoors as well as in workshop. This must be something you want to pursue and are comfortable doing.

The company are seeking between 4-6 local school leavers who are interested in this as a career choice, who are willing to learn and who want to work hard to understand the highs and lows of the role.

In return, you will be offered a good place to learn and become time served and after this……the World of work awaits. A willingness to learn, a great work ethic and a positive attitude is what they are looking for.

Time served coopers are well paid and secure in their careers so this is a brilliant opportunity.
