Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing are delighted to be working with our client who is a leading Manufacturer in Glasgow. They are looking for an Engineering Maintenance Area Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. 

The main purpose of the role is to effectively manage Engineering resources following Continuous Improvement and Optimisation of the plant and equipment. You will be responsible for a team of Shift Engineers. 

You will be responsible to ensure

  • Operational efficiencies should be at or better than standards used in budget
  • Shift/daily reporting is accurate and timely
  • Development of direct reports and input into succession planning
  • Quality: Zero withdrawals/recalls and target complaints per million year on year improvement
  • Green every day Audit & GMP compliance
  • Leading and lagging safety leadership performance 

The results should be delivered by

  • Engaging, motivating and developing the manufacturing team with particular reference to their direct reports.
  • Working as a team with their peers in other functionS

Duties and responsibilities of the role

  • To manage, develop and maximise individual and team performance
  • Provide leadership and coaching techniques
  • Develop ‘Line Plans’ identifying key areas of ‘downtime’ 
  • Ensure all plant, equipment and ancillary building services are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Prepare team briefs and group discussions 
  • Be involved in improving communications and motivation.
  • Ensure effective use of Manpower in PPM Scheduling and unplanned equipment failures.
  • Building strong relationships internally with operations ensuring being client orientated
  • Drive Engineering standards
  • Deliver and support site legislative requirements 
  • Adherance to safety, Quality and GMP
  • Have a proactive approach to resolve issues within the Plant 
  • Understand weekly expenditure and Identify and manage cost effective area improvement projects 
  • Responsible to lead the engineering team to deliver on their KPI's

This role may bring some challenges as you will be responsible for

  • Leading in a fast moving and constantly changing environment, balancing the demands of customers, management and staff.
  • Leadership of team members, responsible for the full range of management activities including, training, development, discipline, communications, absence control, team leadership, motivation.
  • Role model and champion for good health & safety practises

Essential skills and experience required for the successful candidate

  • Recognised Mechanical / Electrical Engineering qualification. City & Guilds minimum.
  • Proven track record of Front Line Management within an FMCG environment.
  • Thorough understanding of PPM techniques
  • Strong desire to develop and coach team performance.
  • Working knowledge of Legislative standards within the FMCG environment.
  • High level of numeracy and ability to analyse and interpret data.
  • Proactive approach to Problem solving.
  • Ability to identify and implement Process improvements.

Desirable skills

  • Manufacturing systems experience.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Management of financial budgets
  • Working knowledge of improvement techniques used to maximise and optimise plant performance and equipment.
  • Ability to produce detailed Engineering and Process Risk assessments.
