The North British Distillery company are one of the UK's largest grain Whisky producers. The company is steeped in heritage and they are extremely proud of their history and core company values.  They have an opportunity for a Permanent Engineering Technician to be based in their facility in Muirhall to assist the Engineering team to maximise the availability of all assets.  Maintaining or improving their original performance capability for as long as reasonably practicable, monitoring costs and resources to help achieve agreed budgetary constraints.

Main Responsibilities 

  • Assisting to ensure that all engineering activities on and off-site are carried out in accordance with the necessary company health and safety requirements, complying with the current legislation associated with an Upper Tier COMAH site, to maintain a safe working environment for all employees 
  • Supporting the Engineering Supervisor with his responsibilities, assisting in the delegation of daily tasks to the team and deputising where required
  • Assisting the Manager and Supervisor with the control of all contractors on site for Engineering, supporting and monitoring all performed activity 
  • Operation of the company's maintenance management system (MAXIMO), ensuring the robust collection and analysis of availability and operating data on key assets to demonstrate that performance standards are being achieved and identify improvement opportunities
  • Assisting in the planned maintenance of all site assets, including forklift trucks, trailers, stackers and process plant
  • Performing welding and fabricating duties across all warehousing sites
  • Operation and maintenance of the site's fixed fire protection system 
  • Monitoring spares levels in the Engineering stores, reporting to the Engineering Supervisor where any parts are required
  • Holding a key position on the out of hours call out list, acting as an initial point of contact for out of hours Engineering support 
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards across all warehousing sites on a day to day basis 
  • Maintaining an awareness of the regulatory and company standards which apply to the role

Knowledge/ Skills/ Experience

  • EITB/ City and Guilds or equivalent time served Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Forklift Truck qualification & re-assessment
  • Relevant experience in the maintenance of forklift trucks 
  • IOSH working safely
  • Basic PC skills - use of: Email, Word, Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Solid knowledge of HSE legislation relating to onsite maintenance of assets and process plant
  • Trained, competent and experienced in Permit to Work systems, risk assessments and method statements 
  • Good oral and written communication skills at all levels
