A rare and exciting opportunity to join a growing and ambitious organisation who have invested in a new site and in new state of the art technology. The client is seeking to recruit a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to coordinate the R&D and manufacturing sites in planning, the implementation, monitoring and review of HSE legislation and ensure they are aligned with the company strategy.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all relevant HS&E legislation and ensure the company has clarity with regard to all its statutory obligations.
  • Lead the development and writing of compliant company policies, procedures and practice for all operations at both facilities.
  • Ensure all necessary risk assessments are carried out and regularly reviewed and practicable solutions implemented to mitigate risk to all on site.
  • Establish and maintain an appropriate program of training to enable all employees to carry out their HS&E responsibilities correctly.
  • Develop and maintain an Occupational Health Programme which meets the needs of the business.
  • Establish and report measures of HS&E performance across the business and adopt a proactive approach to continuous improvement of HS&E practices.
  • Establish and maintain a programme of documented inspections, audits and checks, and provide advice to employees to allow resolution of issues.
  • Facilitate all 3rd party HS&E audits and inspections, ensuring outcomes are actioned and communicated as required.
  • Manage and develop HS&E colleagues to ensure delivery of goals across the sites.
  • Establish and lead regular Health & Safety Forum activity to address safety matters and help promote a safe and healthy, ‘Zero Accident’ culture across the business.
  • Liaise proactively with regulatory bodies (including HSE & SEPA) to build positive relationships, secure support and agree workable solutions.

To be successful for this role, you should:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Working knowledge of relevant HS&E workplace legislation/codes of conduct
  • Experience of laboratory safety (including biohazards/containment level 3 controls)
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Good at problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Flexible approach/experience of developing procedures in a fast-changing workplace
  • Solid IT skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Personal task management skills and a high level of self-motivation
