Nine Twenty Engineering are delighted to be working with a client in the Livingston area; they are a global OEM, manufacturing highly automated industrial machinery. They have an immediate need for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to take full responsibility for continuous improvement and driving quality and output for the site. It has been stressed that you will be the face of manufacturing for this site and if Global stakeholders come on site, you are the person they are looking at to understand efficiencies. 

 

The hiring manager explained that this person has to be able to communicate with board level stake holders and articulate "what does engineering excellence mean to this site and what are doing evidence and improve that?"

 

Your main purpose will be to provide leadership and direction to the site regarding process and product cost improvement for all manufactured parts and assemblies. You would ideally show the following competencies and skills:
  • Evaluating costs of manufacturing methods and processes both with material and labour. 
  • Production implementation of new methods, procedures, or products. 
  • Identifying and implementing cost containment or cost improvement initiatives.  
  • Applied knowledge of stainless steel material specifications, handling, and fabrication techniques, especially:  welding, laser cutting, surface finishing, bending, blasting and similar methods and practices.
  • Welding and Fabrication knowledge of thin stainless steel materials for equipment
  • Experience with CAD systems: Auto-Cad, Pro-E, Inventor, Solid Works etc…
  • Experience with Laser cutting equipment.
This role requires strong Leadership skills to manage a team of Manufacturing Engineers and a high degree of creativity, problem solving, judgment, and communications skills. You'll have significant accountability and initiative required to investigate cost improvement opportunities, then collaborate with other functions for necessary resources to implement initiatives and  you will be responsible to support the quality drive, providing solutions through process improvements.
 
  • You will lead manufacturing engineering teams to drive efficiencies throughout the manufacturing process. Providing Production the required support and guidance.
  • Perform piece-part or assembly cost estimates as required for evaluation of:  competitive supplier bids, standard product design changes, ‘special’ order requirements, or changes in manufacturing and installation methods.
  • Perform cost and technical evaluations and make recommendations on improvements in manufacturing and field installation methods and/or procedures.
  • Nest parts through the Laser process to maximise material utilisation in conjunction with the build level schedule
  • Investigate and resolve variances from cost estimating to actual. 
  • Implement processes, methods, and procedures as required to resolve product issues of poor functionality, quality, or reliability.
  • High level of experience in process planning and routing for fabrication and welding of stainless steel fabrications.
