Nine Twenty Engineering and Manufacturing have an opportunity for a Manufacturing Manager to join our Turnkey Engineering client in their Lanarkshire facility.

They have a global presence and, as a group, have strategically steadied the ship through the turbulent Oil and Gas down fall; they have diversified their skill set and now operate across multiple markets and someone with a significant technical knowledge and experience across a broad range of engineering materials and processes, preferably with an industry background including – welding, heat treatment, forging, casting and with previous experience of this kind of manufacturing environment.

Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Operations Director you will take responsibility for helping to achieve the company’s objectives by:


  • Creating a manufacturing environment where safety is a primary consideration in all that you do.
  • Ensuring all work is manufactured right first time, cost effectively and delivered on time in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Managing shop floor scheduling and resource planning.
  • Communication with all relevant people/departments and coordinating all relevant inputs (people, plant and processes) to ensure safety, production, output and on time delivery targets are met.
  • Ensuring that the shop floor has the necessary manpower, knowledge, skill, plant and tooling required to achieve targets.
  • Contributing to the company’s overall strategic goals.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively reduces EH&S risks and promotes safe behaviours in the workplace
  • Ensures compliance with all Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental standards
  • Manages the manufacturing process, including information flows for manufacturing control and planning for on time delivery of products. Including –
    • a) Capacity planning and shopfloor work to lists
    • b) shopfloor management, chain of command and labour utilisation
    • c) shopfloor practices and housekeeping
    • d) on time delivery by suppliers/contractors
    • e) on time delivery to subcontractors and customers
    • f) completeness of supporting documentation requirements
  • Develop/improve control measures and ensure achievement of production targets/goals optimising operational efficiency
  • Achieve the financial targets relating to gross margin and planned profitability
  • Evaluate and control spending for manufacturing operating budgets
  • Identify and co-ordinate training requirements
  • Agree project requirements and on time delivery deadlines with Projects Team
  • Drives employee engagement, positive culture, and execute strategic initiatives
  • Responsible for dealing with any departmental disciplinary actions ensuring consistency and fairness of approach
  • To promote positive company image demonstrating enthusiasm for the company
  • Liaise with Operations Director on any ad hoc duties
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for Group as and when necessary
  • To provide support to other members of the team when required


  • Educated to degree level in relevant discipline; preferred not essential. minimum HND level attained
  • Proven leadership skills in a lean manufacturing environment with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar environment
  • Leadership and Project Management training

Knowledge and Experience

  • Team leadership skills – encouragement, motivation, etc
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Good management skills including organisation, communication, co‐ordination and negotiation
  • Good level of spreadsheet skills and IT literate
  • Develop customer relationships to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
