Nine Twenty are delighted to be working with our Central Scotland based, leading manufacturer as they look to hire a Procurement/Buying Lead into their business during this continued period of investment in their manufacturing facility and as they prepare for continued growth.

Reporting to the site Manufacturing Director, the Lead Buyer has supervision of buying team, to ensure that all components, materials, services and equipment relating to the products and site are purchased in the most cost-effective manner, in line with established quality and delivery criteria to satisfy the requirements of the Company.

Responsible for the day to day management of a purchasing profile with focus on continuous improvement. You will plan the sourcing of goods and services to support manufacturing and operations strategic plans at the site level.

 

Qualifications

  • CIPS preferred or currently studying for CIPS

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Deep understanding and professional experience with Purchasing Contracts
  • Excellent negotiation, customer service and consulting skills
  • Selecting new products and reviewing the old
  • Finding the right suppliers
  • Negotiating prices
  • Ensuring the products are delivered on time and of good quality
  • Ensuring goods meet with standard and address non-complaint goods and incorrectly supplied materials
  • Stock control – Cycle counts
  • Reacting to any changes in customer demand
  • Maintaining relationships with existing suppliers while seeking new ones
  • Manage and continuously review the Purchase Order System (MRP), to ensure it is accurate, up to date and consistently meets the requirements of the business.
  • Purchase materials in line with inventory targets.
  • Continually review the overall“value”offered by existing suppliers and ensure that the Company’s purchasing remains competitive.
  • Management of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Product costing
  • To project and maintain a professional image of the Company and thereby enhance its negotiating stance internally and with Suppliers
  • Liaising with production / supply chain to ensure efficient lead times
  • Monitor, identify and communicate situations which affect, or potentially affect the company's ability to achieve the manufacturing plan

 

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience within an Engineering or Production environment
  • Understanding of ISO 9001& ISO14001
  • Ability to read & understand Technical Drawings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy in all work
  • Experience in following Quality Systems
  • Excellent understanding of efficient materials flow and best practice;
  • Experience in dealing with global suppliers;
  • Strong track record of negotiating procurement / buying terms;
  • Proven experience within engineering manufacturing industries.
  • An excellent understanding of technical drawings, design intent and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience of indirect procurement
  • Project management skills, able to plan and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Good understanding of MRP and other planning systems
  • Skilled in negotiation
  • A good understanding of Continuous Improvement Techniques and able to lead teams
  • Strong people leadership capabilities and experience
