​The North British Distillery Company was established in 1885 by Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John Crabbie. Their chosen location on the western outskirts of Edinburgh soon became an exciting addition to the commercial and industrial heartbeat of Edinburgh.

A brilliant opportunity now exists to join this business steeped in heritage but going through an exciting period of change as they have created a new role as a Production Support Manager whose Primary focus will be to lead /support the Manufacturing Shift Teams to achieve improved safe working practices. The Production Support Manager will be expected to take a leading role in the preparation, issue and control of Permits to ensure compliance with The Company’s “Permit To Work Procedure”. The Company is committed to reducing the requirement for reactive permit issue through improved planning. Through this position, improved planning and practices, the goal is to significantly increase pre-planning and control of higher risk activities to reduce the potential for harm. It is expected that the majority of permits for more complex tasks will be managed by the Production Support Manager.  While the primary focus will be on improving working practices, the Production Support Manager will be expected to provide support in other areas. These could include review and update of Work Instructions and Risk Assessments, operator training, and taking a support and/or production lead role for designated technical projects.

The Production Support Manager shall have a strong understanding of Risk Management and Permit Control. They will have a full understanding of the fundamental aspects of the whole manufacturing process on the site, from dry goods and raw material intake and handling, through to finished product leaving site. The Production Support Manager shall have a sound understanding of the requirements of Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) legislation and The Company’s related procedures, including each of the Major Accident Hazard and Risk Assessment scenarios.

​This role will be a dayshift role initially then the plan will be to second other senior shift managers into this role and you would then take over the running of a shift team so you must be prepared to work shift patterns after the initial 12-18 month period. 

Successful candidates must have/be:

  • ​A CI driven individual who is always looking at better ways of working 
  • Someone who can drive performance through their teams demonstrating strong leadership skills
  • ​Have extensive permit experience within a COMAH environment
  • Be a strong communicator who can work across all areas and levels of the business 
  • ​Have a degree in a science or engineering discipline
  • Be ambitious and willing to progress further in their career
  • ​Be flexible to work on shifts
