Nine Twenty have a really exciting opportunity... Production Team Leader for Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse in Ayrshire.

Direct Operations at the Catrine Packaging plant involves the production of c. 3m cases of alcoholic beverages.  The production of the safest, highest quality, most cost effective case and to be able to deliver them on time and in full every time is of paramount importance to the site in the current economic and business climate.

To improve performance results across the 6 automated/ semi automated lines, we must provide the greatest direction, support and coaching we can to our employees, while having the most effective Leadership structure that supports these operations in a cost efficient way.  The team lead role exists to lead the operational teams to higher levels of performance over a suite of operational KPI’s Including Safety, Quality, Plan Achievement, Efficiency, Waste, Heldware, and People (quality 1-2-1 and development plan delivery).

The Team Leader will manage the day to day complexities to deliver high quality products in a safe manner and to the production plan.  They will be capable of working and managing a high level of complexity in a complex and busy operational environment.

The role is the key in the Line Leadership of Line Operatives.  With direct line responsibility for 2 or more production lines, the Production Team Leader will be part of a team consisting of one other Production Team Leader, a Technical Team Leader and will be supported by a Support Team Leader and small Production Admin/Resource Planning Team.  In addition, a minimum of 2 Senior Operators will report to the Team Leader.

Key Accountabilities/ Tasks

The key deliverables for the role holder:

  • To lead the teams in the day to day operation of 2 production lines along with a Technical Team Leader and with the support of a Support Team Leader and 2 x Senior Operators.  This includes:-
  • Ownership of the weekly production plan, agreeing the scheduling of orders on a weekly basis and ensuring that conformance to plan via accurate plan and balance speeds is delivered.  This also includes dealing with material supply and quality issues.
  • The accurate recording of production (case, downtime, resource) information via the Harford Quality/Performance System and Line Scores
  • The delivery of the H&S, Quality, Service (Conformance to Plan) and Cost (efficiency and waste) measures for the line and that these are communicated daily and weekly via start up meetings and team briefs
  • Managing the immediate direction of the operator team in the event of breakdowns and material issues, as well as liaising with the Technical Team Leader in the resolution and RCPS of more complex interventions
  • To own and drive effective changeovers, including the introduction of centre lines and changeover documentation and delivery of these as part of our ISO, IFS and BRC responsibilities
  • To manage all people related aspects of the line, including absence and at least one annual 1-2-1
  • To own and drive the Line Improvement agenda for the 2 production lines under the job holder’s responsibility working closely with the Bottling Manager, Technical Team Leader and other stakeholders as required.  This includes the regular creation of tactical improvement plans and the undertaking of RCPS processes to tackle more complex issues
  • To drive a purely process driven and standardised organisation within the bottling department
  • Leadership of the operator group, including the development of skills and behaviours across the two lines and the team development to that of a high performing workgroup
  • To be a lead member of the production leadership team in the drive towards Continuous Improvement, standardisation and codification of processes.  To have a relentless enthusiasm and drive to improve performance and share these learnings to other lines
  • To show the behaviours and attitudes that help build a strong business culture, including showing mutual respect, trust in our colleagues to deliver, fairness in our judgements and constructive in our feedback
  • To deliver the Key Performance Indicator results across the range of H&S, Quality, Service (CTP) and Cost (Efficiency/Waste) and to be able to fluently discuss with Technical Team Leader, Senior Operators and Operations Manager the performance for lines on an hourly basis

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Typically educated to degree standard in engineering or business/ supply chain management, or be able to demonstrate Leadership expertise and experience when working in partnership with large groups of employees/representatives
  • Track record of performance improvement when leading large groups of employees in a direct operations environment
  • Exemplary communication up and down stream that includes awareness of the importance of excellent stakeholder management and the impacts of their decision making on other parts of the Supply Chain
  • Functional expertise in packaging operations
  • Demonstrates high level of integrity at all times
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Well balanced decision maker with good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Expert knowledge of Root Cause Problem Solving techniques (desirable)
  • Can discuss KPI’s, how they are calculated and how they can be influenced
