An exciting opportunity for a raw materials specialist to join a leading drinks organisation at their busy Ayrshire site to support the delivery of the highest quality raw materials to the distilling operations via critical analysis and projects. This includes wheat, malt, yeast and co-products associated with the distillery process. Ownership of raw materials specifications and supplier review meetings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To own all technical aspects of distillery raw materials including relevant new projects to achieve continuous improvements through delivery of analytical data and insight ensuring that the key business deliverables are achieved in full.
  • Responsible for monitoring and quality management of all incoming raw materials to WGs. Development and responsible for all analysis relevant to raw materials .This  include in process cereals and spirit analysis with reporting and insight delivered to agreed timescales to ensure accuracy and consistency in analytical results.
  • Establish a quality monitoring metrics for all incoming raw materials to WGs. Develop and maintain robust NIR models for all whole cereal, in process cereals and spirit analysis to agreed timescales to ensure accuracy and consistency in analytical results.
  • Ensure in-house analytical capability of raw materials and co-products in optimised, proficient with industry standards and maintained.
  • Monitor, support, implement and drive through specific projects and or a program of trouble shooting focused on raw materials to ensure WGS distilleries efficiencies are in line with the cereal predicted spirit yield.
  • Ownership of raw materials and co-product specifications and liaising with procurement to establish annual specifications for suppliers. Deliver a supplier performance review meeting programme to ensure incoming quality of raw materials against agree specifications
  • Maintain and develop key stakeholder relationships within WGS and with suppliers to deliver optimal yield efficiencies based on process analysis, and influence operational processes utilising trouble shooting techniques

To be considered you should be/have:

  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Specific knowledge on raw and co-product material processing and control
  • Knowledge of malt and grain distilling processes
  • Technical and practical understanding of laboratory equipment, procedures and methods
