Shift Pipeline Operations Controller - West London Terminal - ExxonMobil

To be eligible for this role, you must have:

  • A good general education to at least GCSE level (or equivalent). GCSEs should be of grades A-C and must include English Language and Maths; and
  • A Mechanical or Electrical trade skill with a relevant qualification

  • Extensive experience in handling flammable liquids; and
  • Experience in a similar position or suitably trained in terminal operations.

The successful applicant will also have to demonstrate:

  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and practices;
  • Proven understanding of and concern for safety and business controls;
  • Knowledge of oil products, operating terminal equipment and technology;
  • Knowledge of OIMS, D&A Policy, LPS, Work Controls Procedures and Product Quality;
  • First Aid trained
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)

Job Role Responsibilities

  • To ensure safe and effective operation of facilities at all times.
  • To meet Company and location standards of performance, control and customer service.
  • To comply with all Company and location Standards of Product Quality.
  • To work with all others on site so as to generate the best individual and team performance.
  • To provide an effective interface between the location and all the external bodies and departments with which it works.
  • All maintenance and equipment calibration work should be carried out ensuring that the Company's Product Quality Standards are maintained.
  • To ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with company Fuels, Product Quality Management Systems.
  • Operation of the pipeline network to meet the pipeline schedule, including liaison with Supply Operations at associated Refineries and the terminals to ensure the product is delivered on time, within product specification, and into the correct tank at the terminal.

Responsibilities will include

I. People management (Leadership & Supervision)

  • To conduct the daily pipeline operations in a safe, cost effective and environmentally sound manner according to established procedures and controls.
  • Work in close coordination with the West London Terminal Operations Controller to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Control Room.
  • To maintain awareness of permits issued to Pipeline Maintainers, or Contractors that are working within the confines of pipeline facilities, or on the pipeline at 3rd party locations.
  • To work with other Departments, other Divisions, colleagues and other Group Companies
  • To interface effectively with other companies, outside agencies, Government departments and authorities in their initial contact with the Company.


  • Ensure that the pipeline network operates within safe operating limits.
  • Respond properly to any alarms and warnings, and identify and address hazards / potential hazards.
  • Be the primary point of contact in the initial stages of any terminal or pipeline emergency situation (real or simulated) and take actions detailed within the Emergency Response Procedures Manual.
  • Support and promote the effective implementation of the Company’s Loss Prevention System.

III. Facility Operations Management (Operational Efficiency)

  • To receive and pass on reports of the current status of the operation to colleagues and others as necessary, to facilitate the continuing operation of the location through changes of shift and operating personnel.
  • Operation of all equipment (Pipeline SCADA, Sciclops, ACS, Leak Detection Systems, Autopage, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with the Pipeline Operating Procedures Manual.
  • Participate fully in all initiatives and developments aimed at improving Midstream operations.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of team meetings, safety meetings and other activities to assist in the continuing improvement of the operation.

IV. Product Management: Quality, Measurement, Controls

  • Day to day control of product movements within the UK pipeline network.
  • Ensure controls compliance in all areas of responsibility and to communicate any controls concerns to the UK Pipelines Operations Group Head.
