Software Engineer - Fixed Term Contract

An excellent opportunity to join a leading manufacturing organisation on a 1 year Fixed Term Contract as a Software Engineer Responsible for the management of all site automation systems and delivery of software and hardware improvements in order to maintain current and future installations.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Manage existing infrastructure to ensure reliability, consistency and efficiency of process operations.
  • Devise innovative methods of adding value through a close working relationship with Operational leadership on site.
  • Analyse and assess operational activities in order to identify areas for improvement across the site and within the wider business.
  • Manage the delivery of assigned capital projects within the agreed scope, budget, time frame, quality and business case, ensuring a strong interface with operational stakeholders throughout the process/project management cycle.
  • Negotiate, co-ordinate and control suppliers to eliminate variations whilst obtaining most effective solution.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted within applicable legislation.
  • Propose new ways of working by keeping abreast of best practice in processes and technologies.
  • Assist the Projects Area Leader in developing the five year capital plan.

To be successful for this role, you should: 

  • Degree level qualified in a relevant subject such as Electrical, Electronic or Chemical Engineering, with a proven track record in implementing software control systems projects in an industrial setting (ideally possessing ControlLogix Programmer Certificate).
  • Experience of designing, building, testing installation and commissioning PLC/HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Proficient in writing Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLC code (ideally ControlLogix), for new systems and making modifications to existing systems.
  • Experience of how to control equipment such as motors, valves, instrumentation and electrical solenoids together with an understanding of how to read analogue values and interpret digital signals.
  • Ability to design and specify all the PLC hardware required to interface to the equipment under control.
  • Ability to produce Functional Design Specifications (FDS), carry out Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and lead commissioning.
  • Experience of producing project documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O schedules, handover documentation.
  • Ability to deliver projects utilising best practice techniques within a Quality Management Environment.
