Scope of the role

To safely and effectively manage the team within the Production Department to deliver against targets and objectives, positively contribute in creating a culture of safety, continuous improvement, high performance, and customer excellence.

Overall purpose of the role

To supervise, develop and execute machine schedules and production plan whilst ensuring production efficiencies are optimised and all SOP, Safe Systems Of Work, and Technical Specification documents are adhered to by all. To deliver high quality finished goods that meets the customer requirements. To support, lead, and motivate all
personnel in area of responsibility to allow them to achieve their full potential. To administrate and control raw hide and chemical stock within the area.

Key accountabilities

  • Responsible for ensuring all Health and Safety standards are adhered to and achieved, any concerns are reported to line manager, support and lead the team to improve safety culture, support incident/ accident investigations and risk assessments
  • Provide full support to the Production Manager in achieving goals and objectives set for the department
  • Communicating regularly with Production manager on H&S, production, quality, yield, and HR issues
  • Manage production throughout and scheduling of all batches and ensure both efficiency and quality are optimised
  • To lead shift start up meeting, process performance reviews, hub meetings, and Gemba Walks on a daily basis
  • To lead the team to achieve department targets and objectives
  • To ensure that the machine operators have set up machines correctly and all safety checks have been carried out
  • Ensure all quality checks are being carried out by machine operators such as substance, dye penetration, and moisture levels
  • To lead by example and take ownership for ensuring all 5S and housekeeping duties are met, safe working are promoted, and that housekeeping standards are maintained whilst ensuring all team members participate in these activities
  • To lead, participate, and deliver in Operational Excellence/ Improvement projects
  • Ensure adequate personnel are available and are utilised effectively at all times to meet production targets whilst
  • Ensuring the headcount is as lean as possible and highlight any issues to line manager at the earliest opportunity
  • Contribute to building a culture of sharing good practice across the function and encourage a continuous improvement approach with teams and peer groups
  • Communicating effectively with the other Team Leaders and Managers in the business to form effective relationships
  • Helping to train and develop new operators within the department, managing and executing training plans and activities
  • Take ownership of raw hide and chemical stock administration, stock taking, and control, ensure issues are reported to the Production Manager in a timely manner

KPI/ Measures 

  • Meets Health and Safety standards – Zero Tolerance
  • OTIF – Internal department and customer dispatch targets are met
  • OEE – Individual process and departmental OEE data accuracy and targets met
  • Productivity and production efficiency targets such as hides per hour/day, hides per man hour, throughout rate and
  • Machine utilisation are all achieved
  • Meets customer specifications and all testing specification criteria
  • Departmental rework, rejects and downgrade level are all within set limits for manufacturing faults
  • Personal development objectives as set by Line Manager
